Man held after slaughterman 'shot' at cull site
A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a slaughterman during the mass cull of livestock in Cumbria.
The 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following the incident at Great Orton, near Carlisle.
The victim, a 27-year-old man from Hastings, East Sussex, is fighting for his life after suffering serious head injuries in the incident at 4pm on Wednesday.
Both men were involved in the killing of livestock at the mass burial site on the former airfield when the incident occurred.
Paramedics were called to Great Orton to treat the slaughterman.
He was taken to Cumberland General Infirmary then later transferred to a hospital in Newcastle.
Another man was taken to Cumberland General Infirmary where he was treated for shock.
