Passengers missing after ferry sinks in Philippines

At least 16 passengers are missing after a ferry sank in rough waters near central Philippines.

One man from a ship that responded to the sinking MV Sea Gold, a large outrigger, was killed after he was hit by a lifeboat being lowered into the water.

At least 28 other passengers were rescued by a passing ship, said Petty Officer Magno Villanueva, of the coast guard station in Batangas City south of Manila.

The ferry sank after large waves capsized it before dawn in the Tablas Strait off Romblon province, about 138 miles south of Manila.

A coast guard rescue ship and other vessels are still looking for survivors.
