36 feared dead in Lake Victoria accidents
At least 36 people are missing and feared drowned in two separate boat accidents on Lake Victoria in Uganda.
Police spokesman John Kimera says a boat loaded with fish capsized as it was approaching Entebbe port, and all 22 people on board were believed to have drowned.
Another ship loaded with ice and fish capsized in the same area the following day. There were seven survivors, but 14 others were missing and feared dead.
Mr Kimera attributed the accidents to overloading of boats operating on the world's second-largest freshwater lake, as well as bad weather.
Uganda has been hit by a series of accidents on its lakes, and blame has been placed on the government's alleged neglect of the water transport sector.
