Pressure to be put on US over global warming

The EU has insisted that talks to avert climate change must continue, despite President George W Bush's decision to abandon the Kyoto protocol.

The EU says America should not be allowed to pull out of the 1997 protocol, under which countries agreed to legally-binding targets for curbing greenhouse gas emissions.
