Body found near fighter wreckage
Rescuers searching for two missing US fighter aircraft in the Cairngorms have found a body attached to a parachute.
It was found near the wreckage of one of the aircraft near the summit of Ben Macdui.
The search and rescue team are now waiting for permission to remove the body.
Identification can go ahead once the Procurator Fiscal has given permission for the body's removal.
Both F-15C jets had taken off from RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk on a routine mission when they were lost.
An RAF spokesman said: "Rescuers searching for two missing American aircraft in the Cairngorms have discovered a body, believed to be one of the missing pilots.
"The body was found in the vicinity of an aircraft wreck on the eastern side of Ben Macdui which has been confirmed as the remains of an F15.
"As yet, the identity of the dead man is unknown and the information cannot be confirmed until next of kin have been informed by the United States Air Force."
