Two shot at Californian high school
Two people have been shot at a San Diego-area high school.
According to television news reports, one person was injured at the school in El Cajon before police shot an armed suspect.
Authorities did not confirm any of those reports.
Police dispatcher Craig Groll said there had been a shooting at Granite Hills High School but he did not know the number of injuries.
Less than three weeks ago, a shooting at Santana High School in nearby Santee killed two students and injured 13 other people. A 15-year-old student has been charged in the shooting.
The shooting at Granite Hills was reported at 12.54pm and firefighters took one victim to a hospital, a Fire Department spokesman said. He said he did not know how many people had been injured.
Witnesses told KFMB-TV that a suspect, armed with a rifle and handgun, was wrestled to the ground by police. The station said officers were searching for possibly a second suspect.
"It sounded like an explosion, like in a chemistry class or something," sophomore Ryan Carrillo told KGTV-San Diego.
He said he heard gunshots as he walked to a bathroom near the office of the school, which has 2,900 students.
Students were evacuated from the school 17 miles east of San Diego and taken to a nearby middle school.
