Italy reports suspected foot-and-mouth case

A suspected case of foot-and-mouth has been reported in Italy.

A goat imported from France was limping, a possible symptom of the disease, said the Italian Health Ministry.

The animal, from a farm in Pisa, Tuscany, has been put down as a precaution.

Blood samples from that animal and another 11 goats in the same compound have been sent for analysis in the northern city of Brescia.

Final results are expected on Friday.

Last week, Italy reported the first suspected case of footh-and-mouth in sheep also imported from France, but further tests showed the animals were clear of the virus.
