Former policeman arrested over arms smuggling in Russia
Security forces in Russia's western Kaliningrad enclave have broken up an arms smuggling gang led by a former police officer.
An official said explosives and other weapons had been confiscated.
Russian transport police, a division of the country's Interior ministry forces, arrested the former police major in Sovetsk, about 600 miles north-west of Moscow.
The man had previously worked in a regional anti-organised crime unit.
Alexander Glushkov, a duty officer with the transport police, said authorities seized 2.35 kilograms of TNT explosives, a pistol and bullets.
