Firefighters save 550 animals in house fire

Firefighters have saved hundreds of birds, frogs, lizards, turtles and mice at a house fire in Connecticut.

A fire station spokesman said around 550 animals were taken to a neighbour's house but it is not known if they are pets.

Two firefighters were injured and two families lost their home in the blaze at the New Haven house.

The spokesman said that one firefighter was treated at the scene and another was taken to hospital and released after treatment.

Both the families are staying with relatives.
