Convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi has been granted a further six weeks to submit the grounds for his appeal.

He lodged notice on February 7 of his intention to appeal against conviction, and under appeals procedure would have six weeks to submit a full statement of his grounds for appeal.

He applied for an extension earlier this month and this was granted on March 9, Scottish court officials said. The period is being extended by six weeks from March 21.

Megrahi was jailed for life after being convicted by Scottish judges at Camp Zeist in Holland of bombing Pan Am Flight 103 with the loss of 270 lives in 1988.
