Doorstep baby doing well
A baby found abandoned on a doorstep in near-freezing conditions has spent a good night in hospital.
The baby, named Patrick Brian, is at Hinchinbrooke Hospital, in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.
It is expected he will be taken into the care of the local council.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokeswoman said the baby had a very good night and is doing very well.
Police have still been unable to trace his mother and say they have major concerns for her welfare.
They are urgently appealing for her, or anyone who may have any information about her, to come forward.
Patrick, named by nurses, was found on the doorstep of retired couple Lance and Beryl Ayres' bungalow in Sawtry, Cambridgeshire, early on Sunday.
"I couldn't see anything and I looked down and there was this baby on the step. It was such a shock," Mr Ayres said.
"The baby was crying. It was just a little whimper. It was so fortunate that I heard the cry. It was just a little whimper. "
Midwives placed Patrick under a special heater because they were concerned about his temperature. But nurses said the little boy had made a full recovery and was doing well.
