Schwarzenegger rules out running for governor

Arnold Schwarzenegger has ruled out running as a Republican candidate for the governor's job in California.

A spokeswoman said the timing wasn't right because family and film obligations will keep him busy for another three years at least.

Schwarzenegger's name surfaced as a possible candidate as Republicans looked for a viable contender to face current Democrat governor, Gary Davis.

The actor has long been active on the periphery of Republican politics, campaigning for candidates and party causes.

"If there were a time in the future when he did not have commitments and felt he could do more good for the country in an official capacity, he would make a determination to run at that time," said publicist Jill Eisenstadt.
