Land Rover driver 'inconsolable' in wake of Selby train crash

The driver of the Land Rover which sparked the Selby train disaster is said to be "inconsolable with grief".

His stepfather Martyn Taylor said he had spoken to Gary Hart, 36, whose vehicle careered off the M62 and down an embankment on to the East Coast main line.

"He can't comprehend what has happened. How could you?" said Mr Taylor.

"We are trying to cope, but to see all those people killed in that way...a film director couldn't make it up."

Mr Taylor lives in the Lincolnshire village of Withern, the next door village to Strubby, where Mr Hart lives.

He said Mr Hart had "been left with a few bruises but it is more his non-physical injuries which we are worried about."
