Dando murder trial to begin

The Old Bailey trial of the man accused of murdering Jill Dando is due to start today.

Barry Michael George, 40, of Fulham, west London, has denied the charge.

Miss Dando was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head on the doorstep of her Fulham home on April 26, 1999.

The trial is expected to last six weeks and will be held before Mr Justice Gage.

The prosecution will be led by Orlando Pownall and George is defended by Michael Mansfield QC.
