Boy, 11, dies choking on chicken nugget

An 11-year-old boy has died after choking on a chicken nugget during his school lunch.

The boy died despite the attempts of teachers and paramedics to dislodge the food after it became trapped in his throat.

The incident happened at Firpark Special Needs School in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, in England.

Strathclyde Police confirmed "a tragic death" had taken place of a boy at the school.

"Staff are totally distraught about this and they will also be offered counselling."

Charles Gray, convener of the education committee, said: "We are all deeply shocked at the loss of this young life."

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal by police.
