Eight hacked to death in Borneo

At least eight people have been killed after fresh clashes flared on Indonesia's Borneo Island.

A total of 28 people have been killed since fighting erupted on Sunday in the town of Sampit.

Fights broke out between indigenous Dayak people and migrants from elsewhere in Indonesia. Most of the victims were hacked to death.

Local police could not confirm the death toll from the fresh fighting, but said thousands of frightened people were fleeing the town.
