Police shoot bus driver in hit-and-run attack on soldiers

Israeli police have shot a bus driver whose vehicle ploughed into more than 20 soldiers at a hitchhiking stop in south Tel Aviv.

Israeli police have dead a bus driver whose vehicle ploughed into more than 20 soldiers at a hitchhiking stop in south Tel Aviv.

The bus, which belonged to the main Israeli bus company Egged, did not stop and raced southwards towards the city of Ashdod.

Police opened fire on the bus about 10 miles from the scene, injuring the driver, and the bus crashed into the back of a truck, eye witnesses say.

The identity of the driver is not clear and it is unknown why he ran into the area where the soldiers were standing.

It is understood at least 20 soldiers were injured in the incident.
