A convict was on the run today after using a stolen ladder to scale one of the highest prison walls in Britain.

Paul Ellwood-Bell, 33, used the ladder, which is believed to have belonged to a contractor working at medieval Lancaster Castle Prison, to climb the 50ft wall.
