Bodies in chapel: Hospital boss resigns
A hospital boss has resigned after a scandal involving bodies being left in a chapel of rest.
Kenneth Williams, chief executive of Bedford Hospital, has left his post after earlier apologising for the incident it is reported. He said it had been an emergency measure.
Hospital spokesman Peter Horton said the practice had caused considerable distress, not only to relatives of the deceased and the general public, but also to the hospital staff.
He said the practice stopped last Friday and had happened in the past on rare occasions when the mortuary was full.
