Justin Bieber quits Instagram after row with ex Selena Gomez
The Canadian had 77.8m followers, but has now deleted or suspended his account, with Instagram users greeted by the message: âSorry, this page isnât available.â
Bieber had threatened to make his Instagram account private, which led to a war of words with pop star Gomez, 24.
The 22-year-old shared a series of photos of himself with alleged girlfriend Sofia Richie, 17, who is the daughter of Lionel Richie.
But when fans posted negative messages, he wrote: âIâm gonna make my Instagram private, if you guys donât stop the hate. This is getting out of hand. If you guys are really fans, you wouldnât be so mean to people that I like.â
Gomez then got involved, writing a message in the comments which was screen-grabbed and shared by fans.

The images show comments from Gomez, including: âIf you canât handle the hate, then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend, lol â it should be special between you two only. Donât be mad at your fans. They love you. They were there for you before anyone.â
Bieber seems to have hit back, with apparent screen grabs showing him saying: âItâs funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love.
âIâm not one for anyone receiving hate. Hope u all can be kind to my friends and each other. And, yes, I love my beliebers.â
The exchange led to the hashtag #SelenaEndedJustinParty, which has now become #JustinDeactivatedParty.
Bieberâs Twitter and Facebook accounts are still active and show him bonding with his new dog, Todd.
The âCold Waterâ singer follows in the footsteps of other stars who have quit social media.
Stephen Fry left Twitter earlier this year, after his comments about a âbag ladyâ at the Baftas led to a row. Fry wrote on his blog about Twitter: âI am free, free at last.â
Rihanna took six months away from Instagram in 2014 after the site shut down her account when she posted topless pictures.
Ed Sheeran is also on a hiatus from all social media, writing in December that he was taking a sabbatical from âseeing the world through a screenâ.
