Mathers, who was Playmate of the Year, 2015, shared an image of an unsuspecting woman showering nude in the gym.
Mathers captioned the photo: “If I can’t unsee this, then you can’t, either!” but she quickly deleted the snap. She also shared an image of herself with one of her hands over her mouth.
Sharing an image of a naked person without their consent is illegal in California. Mathers could face a short stint in prison.
A sexual-assault division of the LA Police Department is investigating, and searching for the woman in the photograph.
A petition for Mathers to be arrested for privacy violation has reached 26,688 signatures. The petition cites that she has violated US law on video voyeurism, which carries a fine or imprisonment of up to one year”.
Mathers has been banned from LA Fitness, the chain of gyms where the incident allegedly took place, and has lost her job on a radio show.
She apologised for the video in another Snapchat post, and said that she had meant to send the images to a friend, and had only set them as a public ‘story’ by accident.
