The singer-songwriter — who achieved global success with ‘Orinoco Flow’ (Sail Away) in 1988 — has amassed a fortune of £91m (€11.5m). She is ranked 28th in the Top 50 of music millionaires in Britain and Ireland, down three places from her 2015 ranking.
Between 2015 and 2016, Enya’s wealth grew by £1m (€1.269m).
Enya is one of the most successful folk singers ever, shifting more than 75 million records worldwide. The only Irish musicians to sell more records are U2.
Michael Flatley is at number nine on the list, with a £198m fortune.
Adele is named as Britain’s richest ever female musician, but is one of only three solo women to make it onto a new list of the top 50 wealthiest pop stars in Britain and Ireland.
The ‘Hello’ singer is estimated to be worth £85m, £35m up from a year ago, putting her in 30th place. She is also ranked at the top of the Young Music Rich List of performers aged 30 and under this year.
Australian singer Kylie Minogue is worth £55m and at position number 42. Minogue is tied alongside Coldplay’s Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion, and The Rolling Stones’s Ronnie Wood.
Paul McCartney and wife Nancy Shevell top the list again, with a joint fortune of £760m, which is up £30m from last year. New York native Shevell has her own fortune in the form of a £150mn stake in her father’s trucking business.
Rich list editor Ian Coxon says: “McCartney has got an additional £150m from his wife but he’s still worth £610m in his own right. I don’t think anybody will catch him soon.
“We obviously include composers like Lloyd Webber (in second position on the list with £715m) and Bernie Taupin at the bottom (49th position) who writes a lot of material with Elton John.”
U2 share a worth of £500m, landing them in third position. Elton John is ranked fourth with his fortune of £280m. The Rolling Stones — Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood — have a combined fortune of £630m, making them the wealthiest band in Britain and Ireland.
New additions to the list are former Beatles star George Harrison’s widow Olivia, and his son Dhani, in sixth position with a combined family fortune of £220m. David Bowie’s widow Iman Abdulmajid, and his son Duncan Jones (from his first marriage) are also new, with a fortune of £90m.
