Boaty McBoatface tops £200m ship name poll

Boaty McBoatface has topped a poll over the name for a new polar research ship as the competition launched by Britain’s Natural Environment Research Council closed.

The suggestion received 124,109 votes — more than three times that of its closest contender.

However, the £200m (€250m) research vessel is not guaranteed to be named in accordance with the poll-topping suggestion, as the final decision lies with science minister Jo Johnson.
