Donald Trump strives to rally New York

US presidential hopeful Donald Trump has invoked the heroism of New York City police and firefighters during the 9/11 terror attacks at a rally on Long Island — and also took a swipe at his Republican rival Ted Cruz.

Mr Trump drew attention to a line from Mr Cruz from a debate earlier this year in which he criticised “New York values”.

The Republican frontrunner said he could not believe anyone would question the heroism of the city’s uniformed officers and construction workers during the aftermath of the 2001 attacks that toppled the World Trade Center.
