Irish actors Michael Fassbender and Saoirse Ronan received nominations for best actor at the Screen Actors Guild Award.

Fassbender received the nod for his titular role in Steve Jobs while Ronan was nominated for Brooklyn.

Fassbender will compete against Bryan Cranston, who received a nod for his portrayal of blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in Trumbo; Johnny Depp, who won plaudits for his role as Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger; Leonardo DiCaprio, who stars in the revenge epic The Revenant; and Eddie Redmayne for his role as transgender artist Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl.

Trumbo scored a leading three Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations.

Leading female performance nominees included Cate Blanchett (Carol), Brie Larson (Room) and Ronan (Brooklyn), all of whom have dominated awards buzz, but also Sarah Silverman (I Smile Back) and Helen Mirren (Woman in Gold).
