Dane Bowers spared jail after ‘sustained attack’ on ex-fiancee

The former Another Level singer throttled glamour model Sophia Cahill during a “sustained attack” at his parents’ home.

Bowers, 36, grabbed Cahill by the shoulders, threw her out of a bedroom, hit her in the face, giving her a bloody nose, pulled her hair, and pinned her to the bed by her throat.

District Judge Andrew Street sentenced him to 20 weeks’ imprisonment suspended for 18 months at Croydon Magistrates’ Court in south London. “This was a sustained assault over some period of time,” he said.

“There were clearly difficulties in the relationship but you have difficulties controlling your anger.

“This offence passes the custody threshold. I’m going to suspend that imprisonment because the impact of imprisonment would be considerable.”

Bowers attacked Cahill, a beauty queen and former Miss Wales, in January when she quizzed him about why he had glitter on his face after he had been to a circus-themed night club.

Cahill became suspicious after spotting it as she tried to wake Bowers the following morning. The couple had already split up but were living separately in the home they shared with his parents in Croydon.

Cahill has had panic attacks, insomnia, and suffered a miscarriage because of the stress of the attack, the court was told. John Blandford, representing Bowers, accused Cahill of “exaggerating” about the effects the attack has had on her.
