Wedding guest billed by bride for failing to show up

A woman in the US received an invoice in the post after failing to show up to a family wedding, and it’s since gone viral.

Jessica Baker, from Andover, Minnesotta, pulled out of the child-free nuptials at the last minute after her mother announced she could no longer babysit.

Baker says the relative, who she has decided not to name, had specified a no-children wedding, so she and her husband decided to stay home.

The bride and groom weren’t happy with Jessica’s decision, promptly invoicing her for the cost of her and her husband’s meals.

The couple were billed for a herb crusted walleye each, plus tax and service charges, totalling $75.90 (€67.80).

A note on the bottom of the invoice said: “This cost reflects the amount paid by the bride and groom for meals that were RSVP-ed for, reimbursement and explanation for no show, card, call or text would be appreciated.”

Jessica promptly posted the invoice on the Facebook page of local news channel Kare 11, where it quickly went viral.

Baker isn’t planning on settling the outstanding invoice. She told Kare 11 her response when she received the invoice was, “you’ve got to be kidding me,” adding, “the whole thing is just kind of silly. I guess I don’t know what the right thing to do would have been.”

She said she did not contact the bride as she did not want to bother her on her special day. Also, they were not close.

“The bride and the groom are a couple that we’ve not heard from for the 12 years that we’ve been married, so I’m not very close to the bride and groom really at all,” she said.
