A British boy aged 16 has been arrested as part of a probe with the FBI into bomb hoaxes and threats made against schools, media companies, airports and airlines in the US.

The teenager was detained at his home in address in Bidston, Merseyside, at 7am on suspicion of several offences believed to have been committed using Skype, Twitter, MSN Messenger and email. Detectives from the North West regional organised crime unit, Titan, are interviewing the youth in custody.

Between September 4 last year and April 10 this year a large number of bomb hoax communications were sent by an unknown person to schools and universities in Michigan as well as airlines and airports in the US, said police.
