Sweden to allow Assange appeal

Sweden will allow Julian Assange to appeal a detention order against the WikiLeaks founder over allegations of sex crimes.

Sweden to allow Assange appeal

The Swedish Supreme Court said yesterday it has “granted leave to appeal the issue of detention”. It gave no reason for the decision.

The move follows a surprise reversal by Swedish prosecutors last month of their long refusal to question Assange in London where he has been holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy for nearly three years, fearing extradition to Sweden.

They have sought to question him over the allegations made by two women after his 2010 visit to Sweden. Assange denies the allegations.
