QUIRKY WORLD...NY tourism site urges visitors to go to Florida

The tourism office of Ithaca, New York, is waving the white flag on winter and advising visitors to its website to check out the Florida Keys instead.
VisitIthaca.comâs home page displays Sunshine State holiday photos and provides links to the website for tourism information about the Florida Keys and Key West.
The top of the Ithaca page reads: âThatâs it. We surrender. Winter, you win. Key West anyone?â
Ithaca and the rest of upstate New York have been in the grips of a brutally cold winter. The most recent cold snap sent temperatures plunging as low as 28 degrees below zero in the Adirondacks yesterday.
Foul play and pushing from journalists were to blame for MPsâ defeat in the annual parliamentary pancake race, a Conservative MP has claimed.
Andrew Rosindell also blamed the distraction of Mayâs general election for MPsâ defeat to the media team in the swift sprint around Victoria Tower Gardens outside Parliament.
But victorious journalist Sam Macrory pleaded the âArsene Wenger defenceâ, claiming he did not see anything untoward.
Robins are up all night singing because city lights convince them there is no end to the day, an expert has said. Blue light from neon signs are likely to be especially disruptive to the robinsâ body clock, Dr David Dominone claims. As a result the birdsâ health could be suffering, he believes.
Speaking at the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting, in San Jose, California, Dr Dominone said: âI live in Glasgow now and I hear robins singing throughout the night, singing all the time. Robins are one of the most sensitive species to light.â
A dancing duo of lesser tenrecs have been caught on camera appearing to perform jazz hands together.
The snap shows the pair perched on the ground with their eyes closed and paws outstretched.
Photographer Jean Wiltshire captured the moment at Paignton Zoo Environmental Park in Devon.

LAX Police Department Sgt Belinda Joseph said some passengers left gate areas of Terminal 2 through emergency doors after the âmisinformedâ public address system announcement apparently related to police activity outside.
Officers had pursued an unarmed driver to the departures level after responding to a report that he may be trying to commit suicide. Somehow, that led to the false announcement.
Gemma Kirby, 25, has marked a milestone in her daredevil career.
For the 500th time, she turned herself into a human cannonball to the thrill of about 5,000 spectators at a Circus Xtreme, staged in Philadelphia by Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey.
A spokeswoman says the petite Minnesota woman, dressed in a sparkly silver outfit, shot out of the cannon, moved through the air at up to 66mph and landed safely in an air bag about 100ft away. The whole act takes about three seconds.
Getting your tongue around Welsh place name Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a tough task for Britons let alone for potential visitors from overseas.
But the Chinese have come out with their own way of describing Llanfair PG (to give its short name) by referring to it as Healthy-lung Village (or Jian Feu Cun), in that you need a lot of puff to pronounce it.
The Anglesey village is one of 101 famous points of interest in the UK provided with names by the Chinese public as part of a campaign by VisitBritain.
Other UK names given Chinese monikers include Cerne Abbas Giant in Dorset â the huge figure in an excitable state has been dubbed Big White Streaker (Bai Se Da Luo Ben) â and Potteries area Stoke-on-Trent, which has been called Diverse Ceramics (Wan Bo Tao Ci).
