Morrissey hits out at Brit Awards

Former Smiths frontman Morrissey has criticised the Brit Awards, accusing them of having “hijacked modern music”.

The singer also takes aim at “light entertainers” Ant and Dec, who are hosting this year’s show, and guest star Madonna, who he says is “again promoting her frightening career on the Brit Awards even though her music has not ever said anything at all about British life”.

Writing on the fan site True To You, the star says the awards “do not ask the public who they would like to see receive awards — for that would be to risk too much”.
