Last month, Teri Roberts, a 56-year-old wife, mother and grandmother of five from Valley, Nebraska, was diagnosed with streptococcal toxic-shock syndrome after falling into a coma that doctors at Methodist Physicians Clinic feared she would never come out of.

Then, on December 22, came what her family described as an early Christmas miracle.

“She just magically woke up,” her 35-year-old son, Ryan Roberts, said during a press conference.
