’Fat’ ten-month-old baby weighs the same as a five-year-old child

Aged just 10 months, morbidly obese Juanita Valentina Hernandez weighs the same as an average five-year-old. Juanita, from Libano Tolima, Colombia, began rapidly gaining weight just weeks after her birth and, since then, her worried mother Sandra Franco has not been able to stop it.

She now tips the scales at a massive 20kg. Last month charity Gorditos de Corazon brought Juanita to the capital Bogota, where a team of specialists — including founder Salvador Palacio Gonzalez — began treatment.

Juanita is now undergoing tests to determine the cause of her weight gain.
