Final curtain for Sting’s Broadway musical

Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Sting’s Broadway musical is to close.

Final curtain for Sting’s Broadway musical

Sting, who wrote the songs for The Last Ship, replaced Jimmy Nail in December as a shipyard foreman.

While that improved sales, they did not skyrocket and the show will now close when Sting leaves, on January 24.

The production is a semi- autobiographical story about a prodigal son who returns to his northern England shipbuilding town to reclaim the girl he abandoned when he fled years before. He finds the workers are now unemployed and entertaining the idea of building one last boat.

The show has struggled at the box office, attributable in part to its challenging topic and mixed reviews. It earned well during the Christmas and new year, but all shows enjoyed bumps. A long February loomed without tourists or Sting to draw New Yorkers.
