VIDEO: Tony Hawk swaps skateboard for world’s first hoverboard

Back in March, legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk took part in a hoverboard video which turned out to be a hoax - but now he’s done it for real.

Hawk visited the Hendo Hoverboard Warehouse to try out their board - and this one actually works.

Granted it's not very fast or manoeuvrable but still, a real-life hoverboard.

Over on the project's Kickstarter page - which has raised $455,271 -, the company explains how it works.

"The magic behind the hoverboard lies in its four disc-shaped hover engines. These engines induce an opposing magnetic field in the surface substrate below that provides lift, levitating our board off the ground."

The technology has some ways to go but it's still pretty impressive. We know what's going on our Christmas list…
