Italian woman sues ‘Peppa Pig’ animators

An Italian woman has launched a €100,000 lawsuit against British cartoon show Peppa Pig, claiming a goat which featured in the show has caused her embarrassment at work as she shares the same name.

Gabriella Capra is seeking the damages from the creators of the show over its Gabriella Goat character (Capra is Italian for goat) after allegedly being subjected to a tirade of jokes in the office with colleagues bleating at her.

Capra, 40, claims she has been “teased and made an object of scorn,” since the introduction of the goat character.

One episode, Holiday in the Sun, shows the main characters on holiday in Italy whereupon they encounter Gabriella Goat.

In the worldwide popular children’s cartoon Goat says: “Hello. I am Gabriella Goat. Baaa.”

The goat then brings Peppa to her Uncle’s restaurant to eat pizza. Capra has requested damages from the London- based animation studio Astley Baker Davies.

Speaking for the woman, Italy’s national foundation of consumers said: “Ever since this episode of the cartoon came out the real Gabriella Capra had suffered taunts from her peers.” She had since said any money awarded would be donated to charity.

“Through us, therefore, our member has submitted a request of €100,000 in damages to the English company, and any resulting sum will be entirely donated to voluntary associations looking after abandoned children.”
