A Florida man was arrested after he refused to move his car so a helicopter could land and transport a victim to hospital after a serious car accident.
Authorities in central Florida’s Volusia County say 26-year-old Tessa George lost control of her car and struck a tree. Deputies called for a helicopter to airlift George to a hospital and blocked off traffic for the landing. However, say deputies, James Allen, a 52-year-old physician’s assistant, refused to move his car.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that Allen was charged with failure to obey police-fire department orders and resisting an officer without violence. He was released on his own bail from a county jail.
A Canadian man has been charged after border agents at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel found more than 50 turtles strapped to his body and hidden between his legs.
The Detroit News reports that Ontario resident Kai Xu was charged with smuggling, illegal trading and exporting.
A US Fish and Wildlife Service agent received a tip-off about a large box sent to a Detroit postal centre. Court documents say it was addressed to Xu. Agents were watching the postal centre when Xu arrived. The turtles were found after Xu’s SUV recrossed the border and was stopped in Windsor.

The manager of Zola Budd’s South African running club said the former Olympic athlete will take authorities to court after they disqualified her from an age-category prize in a marathon.
Hooters Athletics Club manager Ray de Vries said 48-year-old Budd finished first in the 40- to 49-year-olds class at the gruelling 90km Comrades Marathon but was unfairly disqualified for not displaying an age tag on her vest.
Mr de Vries said the now US-based Budd was instructed before the race, billed as her South African homecoming, that there was no need for a separate tag as her age category was shown on her main race number. He said Budd wants “redress” and lawyers have started proceedings to take the regional athletics body and Comrades Marathon Association to court.
