Egypt is now two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and six hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time.
The country stopped switching between summer and winter time after the overthrow of president Hosni Mubarak in the 2011 uprising. In May, the government moved clocks ahead one hour as a power-saving measure. It then switched clocks for the start and end of Ramadan, the Muslim fasting month, which this year fell in June and July.

The game between Staines Lammas FC and Chessington & Hook FC was stopped by the referee after 27 minutes and the fixture was abandoned, the Sunday Mirror reported.
A Surrey FA spokesman said: “The county FA is aware of the incident and is investigating the matter. We are unable to comment any further at this time.”
An Ohio man, who raised $55,000 (€43,360) in a joke crowdfunding appeal to pay for his first attempt at making potato salad, threw a huge public party that promised “peace, love, and potato salad”.
PotatoStock 2014 was held in downtown Columbus and featured bands, food trucks, beer vendors and, yes, plenty of potato salad. With more than 1,360kg of potatoes, the charity-minded party was open to people of all ages.
Zack Brown had jokingly sought $10 on Kickstarter in July to buy potato salad ingredients, but his mission drew global attention and earned tens of thousands of dollars. He is partnering with the Columbus Foundation to support charities that fight hunger and homelessness.
“His fund will have potential way after this potato salad is forgotten,” said Lisa Jolley, the foundation’s director of donors and development.
Comedian Seann Walsh was forced to cancel a gig in Hertford after he confused it with Hereford.
He wrote on Twitter: “Hertford! I regret to inform you that tonight’s show is cancelled due to me arriving at Hereford, near Wales. I am so sorry. Please feel free to tweet me abuse!”
The 27-year-old said it had taken him more than four hours to get home, when the journey to Hertford would have taken him 45 minutes.
A man accused of firing a bullet through a neighbour’s window told a judge it was the only way he knew how to unload the gun.
The Bucks County Courier Times said George Byrd, 31, of Penndel, at first denied being behind the shooting in Middletown, Philadelphia, but admitted during his arraignment that he fired the weapon to clear the chamber because he was unfamiliar with guns. No one was injured. A preliminary hearing will take place on October 8.
North Korea’s athletes at the Asian Games, reportedly feeling homesick while competing in South Korea, have held a special “longing for the leader” gathering to express how much they miss their homeland.
The gathering featured songs and poems praising leader Kim Jong Un, according to the North’s Korean Central News Agency.
The report said that at the gathering, called an ‘Evening longing for respected Marshal Kim Jong Un Kim’, sports minister Kim Yong Hun said that while they have only been away from the leader for about a week, “the minds of all members of the delegation and players are running to him, whom they long to see, awake or asleep”.
