Obama rules out US military action in Ukraine

US president Barack Obama has ruled out the possibility of military action to address growing violence in Ukraine.

He made the comments after a UN official told the Security Council that further violence in Ukraine marks a dangerous escalation. In an emergency session of the council, US ambassador Samantha Power said Russia “has manipulated. It has obfuscated. It has outright lied”.

The meeting came hours after a Ukrainian official said Russian tanks and military vehicles fired missiles at a Ukraine border post, then rolled into the country.
