This week, news of a ’miracle baby’ in Gaza hit headlines around the globe.

'Miracle Baby' delivered to dead mother in Gaza said to have died after air strike five days later

The baby girl was delivered from the womb of a fatally injured woman during an air strike.

The 23-year-old mother was killed when a house in the town of Deir al-Balah was targeted.

An emergency C-section was carried out and baby Shimah was delivered successfully.

Dr Fadi Al-Khrote told Al-Jazeera the child was a ‘miracle’ as the woman had been clinically dead for ten minutes.

Yesterday, Ian Pannell from the BCC, who originally reported on the baby’s birth, tweeted that the infant had since died and was buried next to her mother.

The hospital has not confirmed the baby's death, nor have they commented on speculation that the cause of death was a power outage at the hospital caused by Israeli attacks.
