Nokia ‘paid €7m to blackmailers who then eluded police’

Finnish telecoms equipment company Nokia paid €7m to criminals in a car park after they threatened to reveal the source code for part of an operating system used in its smartphones some six years ago, Finnish TV station MTV said.

Nokia contacted police before agreeing to deliver the cash to an amusement park’s parking area in Tampere, central Finland.

But after the money was picked up, police lost track of the culprits.
