EU backs rules to stamp out organic fraud

The revolution in organic farming is bypassing Ireland as we have one of the lowest proportions of organic farms in Europe.

Demand for organic food has quadrupled over the past decade as consumers demand more and are happy to pay more — despite the recession.

About 1% of the country’s farmers are growing organic produce compared to 19% in Austria and an EU average of 6%.
