Jagger writes moving tribute to L’Wren Scott
“I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way,” Jagger, 70, wrote alongside a black-and-white photo of former model Scott, whom he had been dating since 2001. “We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.
“She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me,” he continued. “I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received. I will never forget her.”
A spokesperson for Jagger had earlier denied as completely false rumours that he had split with Scott before her suicide.
The remarks came as the band cancelled the first date on their Australian tour after the death of Scott.
The designer, whose company was heavily in debt, was found dead in her New York apartment on Monday.
Last month, Scott cancelled her London Fashion Week show, due to reported production delays. It is understood she actually could not afford to stage a show.
Accounts filed by Scott’s LS Fashion Ltd in London show the company had liabilities that exceeded assets by €4.24m as of December 31, 2012.
The company’s long- and short-term debts totalled €6.75m.
Scott’s designs have been worn by the likes of Madonna, Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey, Penelope Cruz, and Michelle Obama.
The Stones are scheduled to tour Australia and New Zealand, then play a string of European dates starting in June.
