Nun who gave birth now feels ‘more like a mother’

A Salvadorean nun who said she had no idea she was pregnant and gave birth in Italy said she now feels more like a mother than a nun.

The 33-year-old mother, Sister Roxana Rodriguez, sparked global headlines after giving birth to her son and naming him Francesco (Francis) — also the Pope’s chosen title and one of the most popular names in Italy, where St Francis of Assisi is the national patron saint.

She described her child as “a gift of God” and pledged to take care of him as she faces expulsion from the convent.
