Cruise settles case over claims he abandoned Suri

Actor Tom Cruise has dropped a $50m (€36.5m) defamation lawsuit against a German media company that published a report saying that the Hollywood star had “abandoned” his daughter, Suri, after his divorce from actress Katie Holmes.

Lawyers for Cruise and the Bauer Publishing Company, which publishes US celebrity magazines Life & Style and InTouch Weekly, agreed to have the case dismissed with each paying their own costs and lawyers’ fees, according to a document filed in the US District Court in Los Angeles.

There was no indication in the court filing of whether there was an out-of-court settlement in the case. Neither Cruise’s nor Bauer’s attorneys were immediately available to comment.
