Nothing says sorry like a parked van and a proposal

A heartbroken van driver parked up next to a busy roundabout and poured out his feelings on the side of his vehicle in big orange letters.

The silver VW vehicle was left parked prominently beside the George Reynolds Industrial Estate outside Shildon, Co Durham. Drivers slowed down to take in the public proposal and others stopped to take pictures.

Twitter users took to the social media site to discuss the proposal, turning it into a mini-soap opera:

* “Who said romance is dead? I wonder what he did though...”

* “I’m such a sucker for stuff like this, he must have done something really bad...”

* “He is still a white-van-man, and some of us will never be able to forgive him for that.”
