An action plan to ensure that human rights and democracy is part of the EU’s foreign policy has been adopted by the bloc’s foreign ministers.

To underpin the commitment to human rights, the EU is to appoint a special representative for human rights in the next few weeks to oversee the implementation of the policy.

Known as the EU Strategic Framework on Human rights and Democracy, the comprehensive document outlines the EU’s commitments and priorities to advance human rights and fundamental freedoms outside the EU.
