Titanic ticket sold for €43k

Bonhams auction house in New York has sold an original ticket to the 1912 launch of the Titanic and a dinner menu from the ill-fated ocean liner, plus a telegraph that read: “We have struck an iceberg.”

The ticket fetched $56,250 (€43,000). The menu, with choices like the tongue of a castrated rooster and beef sirloin with horseradish, sold for $31,250 (€23,907). Gregg Dietrich of Bonhams said one surprise was the comparatively low price paid for the telegraph. It sold for $27,500 (€21,039).
