Teen girls given contraceptive implant without parents’ consent

NHS managers last night defended giving girls in as many as nine schools implants in an attempt to combat teenage pregnancies.

The initiative, which sees a 4cm device fitted under the skin, in Southampton to combat Britain’s high rate of teenage pregnancies was criticised by one parent who discovered her 13-year-old had been given the implant.

She told the Southern Daily Echo that giving the girl the device without her knowledge, or that of her GP, was “morally wrong”.
