Police in Gweru made the arrests after discovering the women in possession of 33 condoms full of sperm. Police believe the victims were forced to have sex with the women who collected the sperm for ritual purposes.

Officer Commanding Gweru Urban Tadious Madondo said the arrests were made following a car accident along Lower Gweru road when the women tried to retrieve a plastic bag full of condoms from the crashed vehicle which killed a pedestrian.

The arrests of the suspects named as Rosemary Chakwizira, 24, Sophie Nhokwara, 26, and Netsai Nhokwara, 24, is the first breakthrough in a two-year investigation that has bamboozled detectives.

The suspected rapists are understood to have been regularly seen at Gweru nightspots.

A court hearing is scheduled over the weekend where the women also face two counts of possession of pornographic material.

“Yes, I can confirm that we have in custody three women who are suspected to be part of a syndicate of women rapists. We can’t say much at the moment as we are still carrying out investigations,” said Madondo.
